Set in Haddonfield on Halloween night in 1978, the game combines a Michael Myers single-player story with asymmetrical multiplayer. In online matches, one Michael faces four player-controlled Civilians.

Civilians warn and rescue residents while Michael uses stealth and special abilities to hunt them. Official launch information lists four multiplayer maps, ten base Civilian characters, and two additional Digital Deluxe Civilians.
